The pull was never the punt itself but the puzzle — how a single race folds breeding, the going, the barrier draw, the trip and the likely pace into one short, unforgiving event. I spent years simply trying to understand why favourites lost as often as they did. My tips are built on patient form study: how the track is rating on the day, where the early speed sits and how a race is likely to be run, trip and distance suitability, and the trainer and jockey patterns that quietly matter. I lean toward each-way value and place markets as much as the win, because finding a genuinely mispriced runner is worth far more over time than backing short-priced certainties that aren't. Nine years of this has hammered home how much variance lives in a single race — a slow break, a wide trip, a tactical mess up front. So I focus on disciplined process and fair prices, and I'd rather explain why a runner appeals than promise a winner I can't guarantee. — Indira Rao
